Back to Alaska

I left Alaska in the summer of 2013 after 12.5 years on the Last Frontier. This last week of January 2024 has been my first trip back since then.

It’s been too cold in and around Anchorage to hang outside for long periods, allowing for more creative photography, but even a few snapshots rapidly fired off with frozen fingers have been fun to capture.

Dall Sheep were down along the Seward Highway at Beluga Point during one of our drives along Turnagain Arm.
The sub-zero winds in Seward were whipping down the valley and out into Resurrection Bay, where the “warm” salt water was giving off vapors reminiscent of an autumn lake in Minnesota.
Sunsets last for hours in Anchorage, given the low angle of the sun. This one highlighted Mount Redoubt, a volcano more than 100 miles away.
What happens when water drips down a chain at Alyeska Resort over days and weeks. You get an icicle with a steel core.
