I took my then-girlfriend to Alaska in March 2000. We got engaged on a flightseeing tour in the Chugach mountains.

All photos were shot with a classic Canon 35mm camera on film. These are scans of the prints, scaled down for release online. No major photos edits.

We flew out of Girdwood with Alpine Air, a small flightseeing company that still exists today. I first flew with them in the summer of 1996. Two pilots made this trip, so we got views of our partner plane.
A little piece of Prince William Sound.
Small planes require some maneuvering to get in and out.
We landed on a glacier and a frozen lake and took a walk around.
More Chugach mountains.
Being on a frozen lake, we explored some “icebergs” that got trapped above the surface of the lake when the lake froze over for the winter.
Sunglasses in the winter a must in Alaska. Between the low-angle sun and the white snow and ice, it’s overwhelming.
Flying over one of the many glaciers in the Chugach range. These spires and ridges will form when the glacier is descending over waterfall-like terrain underneath the ice.
